The Journey-Day 1,427 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,427 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Thursday – 9/30/2021

Life Is All About The Journey

It took me a long time to realize that life is all about the journey instead of the destination. I used to focus on the destination, and I didn’t always savour or enjoy the journey. My 40’s have taught me that the beauty of life is in the journey. In each day, there is joy. It’s the journey where life is truly lived!

life is all about the journey instead of the destination.

About “Finding Joy”

And I’m off…. the 16-day adventure begins. The timing of this trip is interesting so I’m naming it “Finding Joy in the Journey.” I’ll be doing one dedicated post each day (at the end of the day or next morning). Since I typically post more than once a day, you’ll find it as a black and white photo. I’ll share the joy of the journey (on the trip or through this season), where I’m finding it and what I’m learning. I hope to inspire myself along the way. And if I can inspire others too, that would be a gift. So let the journey begin…

It was November 2017 and I was ready to head off on a sixteen-day trip.  Nine days before leaving, my mom unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack. It shook me to my core.  I had always been told the 40’s are the best years of your life.  And in a matter of three years, since turning the age of 40, I had gone through a divorce and lost both parents.

I contemplated canceling the trip though I knew my mom would not be happy with that decision. She would want me to continue living my life.  My parents did not raise me to sit back and watch life; instead to fully participate in every moment. So I promised my parents to find joy in the journey everyday on my sixteen-day trip and share my experience with others.

Little did I know what “Finding the Joy in the Journey” would turn into when I acted on the prompting to share my experience on a daily basis.  It helped me see life differently and my wish is that it will inspire others find joy in their journey.

Enjoy Wine-Day 1,426 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,426 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Wednesday – 9/29/2021

Enjoy Wine

It may not surprise you that I enjoy wine! I am a little bit of a wine nerd. Besides drinking it, I’ve spent time reading about wines of the world and the different regions. This nerdiness about wine (maybe it’s my science degree background) led me to experimenting with different wine glasses. If you open up my cupboard, I have wine glasses for all types of wines and a guide that tells you which glass you should drink a wine out of. For example, none of the glasses are named Chianti, though the guide tells you to use a Zinfandel glass.

So, Steve and I tried a new wine. It was 50% Sangiovese, and the other half was Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. I usually go by the highest percentage though thought we would try both the Zinfandel glass (for the Sangiovese as it’s the grape in Chianti) and the Bordeaux glass (for Cabs and Merlots).

There was a huge difference. I was even surprised how the Zinfandel glass made it taste fruity and the Bordeaux glass made it taste like it needed to open up more. Glasses really do make a difference!

I had Steve try them and he thought I was giving him two different wines. It made me smile to show my husband why we use different glasses for different wines, even if it means extra glassed to wash. Yes, I know, it’s a little quirky – though I believe our quirks make us unique. And this quirk, well it makes me happy and enjoy wine too!

So, I’m curious, what is something that others may think is quirky about you, though you don’t mind because it makes you happy?

Parallel Park-Day 1,425 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,425 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Tuesday – 9/28/2021

I learned to parallel park

I learned to parallel park at 15 in Driver’s Education class. It seemed like a difficult feat because so many say how hard it is. Living in Texas, you don’t have to parallel park very often. On the other hand, when I would visit Steve in England, he would always have to parallel park as it’s very different over there.

Today, I was very happy with my parallel parking skills. I know how to do it. I’ve done it and I’ve seen Steve doing it lots of time. Though for a long time I thought I was bad at it. Today was different. Today, I believed I could do it and voila – I got it on my first try.

It reminded me there is something really important about belief. It’s the first step in mastering things – the belief you can do it!

What is one thing you are working on mastering right now?

my 40’s-Day 1,424 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,424 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Monday – 9/27/2021

As I progress through my 40’s

As I progress through my 40’s, I find that I love the different seasons of life. And I feel like in my 40’s, I have had many different seasons. Seasons filled with happiness, grief, new love, traveling the world, slowing down and waiting are just a few of the seasons I’ve travelled through during my 40’s. And I know I still have more seasons to experience. All of the seasons in our life and how we show up in them, shape who we are and what we become. Many times, we don’t get to choose when a season starts or even when it ends and so, it goes with the seasons of life.

I love the season I am in right now. I love what I do and how I am contributing. I love having Steve here and exploring life together instead of on two different continents. I love the boundaries I’ve created and continue to work on them. I feel really blessed in this season and excited to see where it leads!

Callaway Mavrik Day 1,423 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,423 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Sunday – 9/26/2021

Callaway Mavrik

Callaway Mavrik. I’ve been wanting a new 3-hybrid for my birthday as I need a club, outside my driver, that I can hit more than 150 yards. Thanks to Steve and a wonderful birthday gift, I was able to play with my new Callaway Mavrik Max 3 hybrid in our golf outing today. I still need a little more practice though I love it!! Thank you, Steve, for making my birthday so special over the past week. I’m a lucky girl!

My Friend Tina-Day 1,421 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,421 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Friday – 9/24/2021

My Friend Tina

Awe!! It was so wonderful being back on the golf course with my friend Tina.  She was my first guest when I joined Sweetwater last year and then she joined too. We’ve had a lot of great conversations and laughs on the course. She’s been off battling breast cancer and is doing great. I am amazed by her and how she’s graciously handled her treatment. Love you, Tina! Can’t wait for our next round. I’m lucky to call you my neighbor and blessed to call you, my friend!

More signs of Fall-Day 1,420 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,420 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Thursday – 9/23/2021

More signs of Fall?

More signs of Fall? Steve and I were able to get a few holes in before sunset. The temperatures were cool enough that I was able to wear a light jacket and just briefly I thought the leaves might be changing. Wishful thinking – ha ha! Instead, the sun hitting the leaves just right. Though what a beautiful view. It made me happy to enjoy the beauty and spend time with my hubby.

Fall in Texas-Day 1,419 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,419 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Wednesday – 9/22/2021

It’s finally feeling like Fall in Texas

Yay! It’s finally feeling like Fall in Texas. And maybe even a little earlier than normal. I can take a walk in the morning and the weather in Sugar Land is in the 60’s and sunny and a beautiful day. I even got to start my walk in a sweatshirt. I miss jeans and sweatshirts after the long hot summer. I admit, I love the mild winters of Texas though do miss the beautiful Autumn weather of Indiana. This really is my favorite time of the year!
