Sunday Evenings At Home-Day 1,367-Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,367 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Sunday – 8/1/2021

Sunday Evenings At Home

I love Sunday evenings at home after an afternoon of golf. Appetizers on the patio followed a few hours later by a nice meal. You will typically find us on the patio – reading, hanging out, chatting, and listening to music. It’s such a relaxing way to end the weekend!

About “Finding Joy”

And I’m off…. the 16-day adventure begins. The timing of this trip is interesting so I’m naming it “Finding Joy in the Journey.” I’ll be doing one dedicated post each day (at the end of the day or next morning). Since I typically post more than once a day, you’ll find it as a black and white photo. I’ll share the joy of the journey (on the trip or through this season), where I’m finding it and what I’m learning. I hope to inspire myself along the way. And if I can inspire others too, that would be a gift. So let the journey begin…

It was November 2017 and I was ready to head off on a sixteen-day trip.  Nine days before leaving, my mom unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack. It shook me to my core.  I had always been told the 40’s are the best years of your life.  And in a matter of three years, since turning the age of 40, I had gone through a divorce and lost both parents.

I contemplated canceling the trip though I knew my mom would not be happy with that decision. She would want me to continue living my life.  My parents did not raise me to sit back and watch life; instead to fully participate in every moment. So I promised my parents to find joy in the journey everyday on my sixteen-day trip and share my experience with others.

Little did I know what “Finding the Joy in the Journey” would turn into when I acted on the prompting to share my experience on a daily basis.  It helped me see life differently and my wish is that it will inspire others find joy in their journey.

Spending Time Outdoors-Day 1,366 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,366 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Saturday – 7/31/2021

Spending Time Outdoors

I have always loved spending time outdoors. As a kid, I would spend hours and hours outdoors during the summer either swimming or playing. As I grew up, I loved spending time on the lake in the summer. And I still love my time outdoors. Golf has been such a great way to spend my weekend outdoors soaking up the sun and enjoying all that nature has to offer.

A Night With Friends-Day 1,365-Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,365 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Friday – 7/30/2021

A Night With Friends

A night with Friends! Sometimes I feel like we could be our own sitcom. Ha ha ha. We are definitely a group of characters though I wouldn’t have it any other way.

My Guilty Pleasure-Day 1,364-Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,364 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Thursday – 7/29/2021

My Guilty Pleasure

My guilty pleasure this week is watching the Olympics. I rarely watch TV though I absolutely love watching the Olympics and seeing the stories of the different athletes. Women’s gymnastics is my favorite and I was excited to see Suni Lee win the Gold! I even made Steve change date night to Wednesday this week so I could watch the All-Around competition. I’m curious, do you love the Olympics too? And if so, what’s your favorite sport to watch?

As I Sat In The Golf Cart-Day 1,363-Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,363 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Wednesday – 7/28/2021

As I Sat In The Golf Cart

As I sat in the golf cart and watched Steve tee off on #7 on Cypress, a smile crossed my face, and a sense of peace came over me. I’ve spent a lot of my life chasing things and running around to try to build a “perfect” life. I’ve learned life is not perfect and the goal is not “to live happily ever after.” It’s to enjoy the experiences and find joy through the journey.

Tonight, just felt good; to be on the golf course with my husband after a day of working and making a difference. I always felt that when I grew up in my small town, I had more time then when I moved to the city. It was if my small town was a slower pace.

Tonight, it was as if we do live in a small town. Really it was the feeling of belonging and loving my life.

Pacific Coast Tacos-Day 1,362-Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,362 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Tuesday – 7/27/2021

Steve and I return to Pacific Coast Tacos

After a long stint, Steve and I return to Pacific Coast Tacos. This was one of my favorite places to eat when Steve came to visit back in 2018. Tonight, was our first time back there together in over three years. A fun night out for dinner and drinks with friends. It’s nice to go back to some of the places we went while we were dating!

Smile Of Accomplishment-Day 1,361-Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,361 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Monday – 7/26/2021

Smile Of Accomplishment

This is the smile of accomplishment. I have shared over the past couple of months my progress with wheel (aka backbend) in my yoga practice. At first, I used a block and then was able to push up laying flat on the floor though struggled to get my head off the floor. I also shared the fear of trying to get into wheel in each yoga class.

Well today, something magical happened. As I pressed into wheel, I went all the way into it and was able to hold it. The fear was there though my body just took over and did what I have been practicing and struggling with. It’s magic, to me, when something comes together. I was so excited I was making noises in the normally quiet yoga class. I couldn’t help myself as I was so excited. It just felt right, and I knew my practice had paid off.

Yes, a smile of accomplishment. I’m already thinking about what’s next. Crow, maybe?

How Many Miles-Day 1,360-Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,360 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Sunday – 7/25/2021

It’s Amazing How many Miles.

It’s amazing how many miles we can put on over a year or two. After looking at the bottom of my walking shoes this week, I realized both pairs need to be replaced. I bought both pairs at least a year before Covid hit and I’ve done a lot of walking since then. Plus, one of the pairs went on the 4-month trip with Steve and me. I struggle saying good-bye to old shoes. Okay, that might be a little odd. Though I sent the old ones on their way and bought two new pairs. I’m excited to break them and see where they take me on my journey!

Working on my Golf Game-Day 1,359-Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,359 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Saturday – 7/24/2021

Working on my Golf Game

I’ve been working on my golf game for over a year now. My goal was to break 100.

I had done it once though there were several mulligans in there and a 2-putt max, so it didn’t really count. LOL! This weekend, I broke 100 on Friday with Steve (and a few mulligans).

Though on Saturday, I finally did it. I shot a 98! I’m super excited to accomplish this goal while playing with our golf buddies on Saturday.

Overwhelmed in the Morning-Day 1,358 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,358 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Friday – 7/23/2021

Overwhelmed in the Morning

I was really overwhelmed in the morning with my schedule and what I wanted to accomplish before the weekend started. There are days that seem like I try to do too much. I know less is more in so many ways though at times things to seem pile up.

After regrouping and chatting with Steve about shifting our afternoon plans to later in the day, I felt so much better and relieved. We had a great round on the golf course because I felt calm and finished versus unsettled and leaving things on my plate. I am grateful my husband gets me and what I need so we can enjoy our together time.
