I love Fireworks. Day 1,337 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,337 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Friday – 7/2/2021

I love fireworks.

I love fireworks. As a kid, we would always watch the fireworks on the 4th of July. Growing up, it was the only time we would see them. 4th of July was always a big day in the town I grew up in with the parade, softball tournaments, time on the lake and the fireworks display to end the day! Tonight, we were able to watch fireworks in our neighborhood as Riverstone put on a big display. They even had an app that you could listen to music that went with the fireworks show. Very cool!

About “Finding Joy”

And I’m off…. the 16-day adventure begins. The timing of this trip is interesting so I’m naming it “Finding Joy in the Journey.” I’ll be doing one dedicated post each day (at the end of the day or next morning). Since I typically post more than once a day, you’ll find it as a black and white photo. I’ll share the joy of the journey (on the trip or through this season), where I’m finding it and what I’m learning. I hope to inspire myself along the way. And if I can inspire others too, that would be a gift. So let the journey begin…

It was November 2017 and I was ready to head off on a sixteen-day trip.  Nine days before leaving, my mom unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack. It shook me to my core.  I had always been told the 40’s are the best years of your life.  And in a matter of three years, since turning the age of 40, I had gone through a divorce and lost both parents.

I contemplated canceling the trip though I knew my mom would not be happy with that decision. She would want me to continue living my life.  My parents did not raise me to sit back and watch life; instead to fully participate in every moment. So I promised my parents to find joy in the journey everyday on my sixteen-day trip and share my experience with others.

Little did I know what “Finding the Joy in the Journey” would turn into when I acted on the prompting to share my experience on a daily basis.  It helped me see life differently and my wish is that it will inspire others find joy in their journey.

I Had No Idea. Day 1,336 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,336 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Thursday 7/1/2021

I had no idea

I had no idea when I said yes to SendOutCards 12 years ago today, as a way to stay in touch with my clients, friends, and family, that decision would have such an impact on my life. I am the person I am today by being part of this company – from the things I’ve learned, the people I’ve met and the kindness I’ve sent out. Completely life changing. I’m super excited about where we’ve come from and where we are going with Greener Still and SendOutCards.

I love to see rainbows. Day 1,335 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,335 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Wednesday – 6/30/2021

I love to see rainbows.

As many of you know, I love to see rainbows. This was the second in time in four days we saw a rainbow off the back patio. Plus, I love wine and trying new wines. I’ve always been big into Napa Cabs though I’m back into exploring more varietals and places. Tonight, Steve and I had a Cab/Shiraz blend from Australia.

What you may not know, though, is I also love to take photos. And not just selfies. Ha ha ha! Before my iPhone, I could always be found with my camera in my purse, just in case. Then my D200 Nikon with changeable lens’ for trips. Now it’s typically, just my iPhone (unless I’m diving) though I still enjoy taking photos.

It was fun trying to capture the rainbow and the wine glass. Plus, in this one do you see the flying gnat? I typically find the gnats annoying though this made the pictures more interesting!

And my love of taking photos is why the Joy of Journey started with a post and a photo!

I have a goal Day 1,334 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,334 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Tuesday – 6/29/2021

I have a goal

I have a goal of doing some kind of exercise ten times per week. My exercise consists of walking, yoga, and golf. A few days of the week, I need to get in two activities per day to hit my goal. Today, was one of those days. With the hot and humid summer temperatures, on the days I walk, I prefer to do it in the mornings. My goal was to walk and then make my yoga class.

When I come to the bridge, I can take it and get back to the house quicker or take the longer route home. Typically, I take the longer route so I can get in a 50-minute walk. Today, I needed to get back sooner if I was going to make it to yoga class. Though I had forgotten about all the rain and the path over the bridge being underwater.

Did I really want to get my feet wet and be uncomfortable? Or was my goal of getting to yoga class more important. I picked going through the water, even though I didn’t want to, because I had a goal to make it to class.

This reminded me of decisions I make in life. I have goals, though do I make myself uncomfortable and step out of my comfort zone so I can get hit my goal or do I just stay the path I am on and let go of my goal. I try to step out of my comfort zone so I can hit my goals though I know at times I stay comfortable. It was a good reminder to ask myself this question as I face decisions, just like getting my feet wet to make my goal of attending yoga class.

Senior Field Advisor. So, this was just announced on our Monday night Official Greener Still Leadership call. I am super excited to be serving in this role of Senior Field Advisor and the trust that has been put in me by our Founders, Jodi & Kody Bateman.

Check out that Rainbow. Day 1,332 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,332 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Sunday – 6/27/2021

Check out that rainbow.

Check out that rainbow. Steve and I spent our evening reading, on the back patio, after a round of golf. All of a sudden, he said “check out that rainbow.” Wow! What a treat. It’s one of the few occasions that I’ve seen that partial of a rainbow in the sky. It reminded me of the one that I saw as I was driving to the Oakland airport to catch a plane to Indiana for my mom’s funeral.

There have been numerous times that I think of her when I am in my house or sitting on the back patio. I would have loved for her to see this home. I think she would have loved it!

Wine with My girlfriend Jill Day 1,330 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,330 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Friday – 6/25/2021

My girlfriend Jill and I like to compare different wines.

My girlfriend Jill and I like to compare different wines. Tonight, we picked two Napa 2015 California Cabernets from different wineries. They were both fantastic. I liked the fruit forwardness of the Handwritten. She liked the more barrel taste of the Del Dotto.

This taste test of ours made me think about comparison. It’s great to compare two wines. Though, when we begin to compare ourselves to another person, it’s not a healthy way to live. The saying, “Comparison is the thief of joy” is so true. We can compare a lot of things, though comparing ourselves to another person creates jealousy and keeps us from seeing the best in ourselves. Instead of comparing, we should embrace what is unique about us and focus on doing our best on a given day. This is where joy and happiness can be found.

Met some friends Day 1,329 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,329 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Thursday – 6/24/2021

Met some friends from Katy for dinner.

Met some friends from Katy for dinner. Good halfway point is near my old neighborhood and this was always one of my favorite restaurants when I lived in the Richmond/Pecan Grove area. Plus, I ran into my old neighbor and a dear friend. I love when it seems like it is a small world. Great evening catching up with friends. (Plus, Steve likes this sign and now want to know if we can get a golf cart – LOL!)

Do you see it? Day 1,328 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,328 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Wednesday – 6/23/2021

Do you see it?

Do you see it? Steve and I had our weekly golf date and dinner at the club. It was a beautiful evening, so we decided to have dinner outdoors. This beautiful cloud formation could be seen as the sun was setting. WOW! An Eagle – that’s what we saw and toasted to it!

Whenever I see an Eagle, I take it as good things are ahead in life and in business. I already know good things are happening with what’s going on at SendOutCards/Greener Still though it was nice to see a sign, especially when it was this beautiful!
