A Trip To Austin – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,227 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Sunday – 3/14/2021

A trip to Austin for the day.

On a trip to Austin. Halfway between Sugar Land and Austin, we found the Bluebonnets – the State Flower of Texas. They only bloom in the Springtime. These are the first I have seen this year. Such a great sign of Spring. I love Spring and its new beginnings!

About “Finding Joy”

And I’m off…. the 16-day adventure begins. The timing of this trip is interesting so I’m naming it “Finding Joy in the Journey.” I’ll be doing one dedicated post each day (at the end of the day or next morning). Since I typically post more than once a day, you’ll find it as a black and white photo. I’ll share the joy of the journey (on the trip or through this season), where I’m finding it and what I’m learning. I hope to inspire myself along the way. And if I can inspire others too, that would be a gift. So, let the journey begin…

It was November 2017, and I was ready to head off on a sixteen-day trip.  Nine days before leaving, my mom, unexpectedly, passed away from a heart attack. It shook me to my core.  I had always been told the 40’s are the best years of your life.  And in a matter of three years, since turning the age of 40, I had gone through a divorce and lost both parents.

I contemplated canceling the trip though I knew my mom would not be happy with that decision. She would want me to continue living my life.  My parents did not raise me to sit back and watch life; instead to fully participate in every moment. So, I promised my parents to find joy in the journey every day on my sixteen-day trip and share my experience with others.

Little did I know what “Finding the Joy in the Journey” would turn into when I acted on the prompting to share my experience on a daily basis.  It helped me see life differently and my wish is that it will inspire others to find joy in their journey.

Day 1,226 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Saturday – 3/13/2021

Our golf gang

Our golf gang! (and my selfie skills – lol!) I’m so blessed to have this group of friends! You can find us, many a weekend, on the golf course or hanging out after. Even though the last year has been a little crazy with the pandemic, I am grateful it brought us all together as a small core group to spend time and have fun with! Now, just to get Steve here to round out our group!

Our Lives Are Enriched – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,224 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Thursday – 3/11/2021

Our lives are enriched.

Our lives are enriched. I spent some time at the driving range late afternoon and then decided to have dinner at the club so I wouldn’t have to cook. Plus, the special for the evening was steak chimichurri. Yes, please! Ha ha ha. So much better than what I can cook for myself.

I was planning on eating alone though one of the other members, John, joined me. He is the same age as my mom and lost his wife a few years ago. We had the most interesting conversation, and he is looking forward to meeting Steve as well.

It was a wonderful reminder of slowing down and really getting to know people, spending time in conversation with others. Each person has a story and when we take the time to learn their stories, our lives are enriched.

Some Days Are Crazy- Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,222 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Tuesday – 3/9/2021

Some Days Are Crazy

Some days are a crazy filled, full on, meeting after meeting day as an entrepreneur. I was happy to find a break between meetings to take a shower! I really love what I do and some of the special projects I’ve been working on over the past few months. We truly have a better way!

Day 1,221 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Monday – 3/8/2021

I love being an entrepreneur. Some days are crazy! Though I made a choice that I wanted to be able to choose when, how and where I work and play. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve made.

My Daily Routine-Day 1,220 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,220 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Sunday – 3/7/2021

My Daily Routine

My daily routine. I had gotten away from walking in my daily routine though realized the importance of getting steps in. Even with doing other exercise routines, I have found that walking the golf course, instead of riding in a cart, is actually very mind clearing for me. We played Friday, Saturday and Sunday with at least 7 miles of walking per day. Wow! That’s over 21 miles in a weekend. Feet were a little sore though I like the way my body is feeling overall with a focus on making sure I am moving my body more and more.

Bahia Ranch-Day 1,219 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,219 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Saturday – 3/6/2021

Bahia Ranch

Many of my past Saturday’s were spent at Bahia, my parents’ ranch. Now, I typically spend my Saturday’s golfing – which was one of their past times. I love carrying on the tradition and wearing my Bahia hat was a reminder of them and how my life has changed.

I Believe-Day 1,218 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,218 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Friday – 3/5/2021

I Believe

I believe one of the hardest things I have had to learn on my journey is setting and adhering to boundaries. Boundaries have never been easy for me and something I continue to work on. When I set good boundaries, I am better at being present and putting my phone away. Life is so much more enjoyable when I am not always glued to my phone.
