What a wonderful surprise-Day 1,137 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,137 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Monday – 12/14/2020

What a wonderful surprise

What a wonderful surprise I found in my mailbox today! Inside the gift was this beautiful necklace with a picture of Steve and me from our wedding in Cayman Brac two years ago. Thank you so much Sarah Nava for the beautiful treasure and for thinking of me. So sweet and unexpected. You absolutely made my day!

What a wonderful surprise

About “Finding Joy”

And I’m off…. the 16-day adventure begins. The timing of this trip is interesting so I’m naming it “Finding Joy in the Journey.” I’ll be doing one dedicated post each day (at the end of the day or next morning). Since I typically post more than once a day, you’ll find it as a black and white photo. I’ll share the joy of the journey (on the trip or through this season), where I’m finding it and what I’m learning. I hope to inspire myself along the way. And if I can inspire others too, that would be a gift. So let the journey begin…

It was November 2017 and I was ready to head off on a sixteen-day trip.  Nine days before leaving, my mom unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack. It shook me to my core.  I had always been told the 40’s are the best years of your life.  And in a matter of three years, since turning the age of 40, I had gone through a divorce and lost both parents.

I contemplated canceling the trip though I knew my mom would not be happy with that decision. She would want me to continue living my life.  My parents did not raise me to sit back and watch life; instead to fully participate in every moment. So I promised my parents to find joy in the journey everyday on my sixteen-day trip and share my experience with others.

Little did I know what “Finding the Joy in the Journey” would turn into when I acted on the prompting to share my experience on a daily basis.  It helped me see life differently and my wish is that it will inspire others find joy in their journey.

It’s starting to look a lot like Christmas-Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,136 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Sunday – 12/13/2020

It’s starting to look a lot like Christmas.

It’s starting to look a lot like Christmas! For Christmas, I prefer wrapping gifts over using gift bags. Even though it takes a lot longer, there is something about a wrapped gift that makes me smile. I am also one that likes each gift to have its own box instead of combining multiple things in a box so there is more to open! After wrapping for several hours, I was definitely questioning that decision though seeing the gifts around the tree reminds me of my childhood in Indiana.

It's starting to look a lot like Christmas.

The Cards You are Dealt-Day 1,135 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,135 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Saturday – 12/12/2020

The Cards You are Dealt

Sometimes you have to make the most of the cards you are dealt. Originally, pre Covid, Steve and I thought we would be spending our second anniversary in the BVI’s. Then as the year progressed, we thought he would be in the US and spend it at home in Texas, then it was I would be traveling to the UK…and ultimately it ended up being an anniversary dinner over Zoom.

There were several people that helped make our Zoom dinner super special for us. For that we are so grateful and blessed.

And to be together today, even 5,000 miles apart, is what matters. A dinner date that became a four-hour zoom call! As I told my husband, even knowing what I know now and the journey to get him home, I would still say “I do” on that beach in Cayman Brac two years ago. You may keep us apart, but you can’t extinguish a marriage and love that is meant to be.

I am not a girl that is all whimsical and fru-fru though my marriage with Steve creates joy in my life, every single day. Happy Anniversary Steve Clear!! I love you!

I Found, In The Past-Day 1,134 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,134 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Friday – 12/11/2020

I found, in the past, when more things needed to get done both personally and professionally, the first thing I would let go of doing are the things that actually help me flow better when things get busy. I’ve learned that when my calendar is full, that is when it is more important to take time for myself. To find time for my yoga practice, personal development, and daily writing. By doing these things, I am taking care of me first and am more focused for the rest of the tasks. It’s taken me a long time to realize that self-care is important all the time, not just when I have time.

So many things-Day 1,133 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,133 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Thursday – 12/10/2020

So Many Things

So many things that were part of normal life in 2019 have become special occasions in 2020. Tonight, Sweetwater did a wine tasting with small plate pairings. A fun evening to try some new wine and new recipes!

Something Every Day-Day 1,132 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,132 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Wednesday – 12/9/2020

I try to do something every day that is some sort of exercise. Typically, it revolves around golf or yoga. With today’s schedule, none of the yoga classes worked. I love that my backyard backs up to waterways and paths as it is easy to get out and take a walk. There’s so much going on right now, with my business, that it was nice to get out of my home office after several meetings to unwind with a walk as the sun was setting.

Steve Just Knows Day-1,131 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,131 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Tuesday – 12/8/2020

Steve Just Knows

Even from 5000 miles away, Steve just knows when I need someone to talk to. My normal state is as an optimist though I have my moments when I doubt, feel down or just need someone to listen. Tonight, was one of those nights. And it happened to be a night where my husband was up late. I don’t know how he knows though he just seems to be there when I need him most.

Thank you Steve

I love you!

Excellent Customer Service-Day 1,130 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,130 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Monday – 12/7/2020

Excellent Customer Service

I am a big fan of companies with excellent customer service. Every company is going to make a mistake at times. Companies are made up of humans and none of us are perfect. The company that goes above and beyond to fix a problem when it occurs will win my loyalty and maintain my business.

I used Mano’s Wines for this fun gift. (Don’t worry the person who is receiving it is not on social media.) My order was two bottles of wine though they shipped a champagne by mistake. I sent them an email with a photo of the issue, and they took care of it immediately, made my life easy and are shipping out the correct bottle today. Simple and excellent customer service.

I’ve never used Mano’s Wines before though if you are looking for a cool customized bottle of wine as a gift, I would highly recommend them.

Birds in The Trees-Day 1,129 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,129 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Sunday – 12/6/2020

Birds in The Trees

There were hundreds of birds in the trees by the lake this morning. I saw them through my bedroom window so I went out on the back patio to watch them. I love to see unique things occur in nature. There were hundreds of birds, so many that the trees couldn’t hold them all. At times they would all fly off the trees and the noise of hundreds of wings flapping was so powerful.

I realized that in the past, I wouldn’t have stopped to watch them. Though now, because I really focus on finding joy in my daily journey, I stop and enjoy unique and rare moments. There is so much that is happening around us and sometimes when we focus on how busy we are, we miss God’s beauty and creation. Choosing joy allows me to slow down and be present in my life which is truly a gift.
