About “Finding Joy”

And I’m off…. the 16-day adventure begins. The timing of this trip is interesting so I’m naming it “Finding Joy in the Journey.” I’ll be doing one dedicated post each day (at the end of the day or next morning). Since I typically post more than once a day, you’ll find it as a black and white photo. I’ll share the joy of the journey (on the trip or through this season), where I’m finding it and what I’m learning. I hope to inspire myself along the way. And if I can inspire others too, that would be a gift. So let the journey begin…

It was November 2017 and I was ready to head off on a sixteen-day trip.  Nine days before leaving, my mom unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack. It shook me to my core.  I had always been told the 40’s are the best years of your life.  And in a matter of three years, since turning the age of 40, I had gone through a divorce and lost both parents.

I contemplated canceling the trip though I knew my mom would not be happy with that decision. She would want me to continue living my life.  My parents did not raise me to sit back and watch life; instead to fully participate in every moment. So I promised my parents to find joy in the journey everyday on my sixteen-day trip and share my experience with others.

Little did I know what “Finding the Joy in the Journey” would turn into when I acted on the prompting to share my experience on a daily basis.  It helped me see life differently and my wish is that it will inspire others find joy in their journey.

Focusing On the Good -Day 1,046 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,046 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Monday – 9/14/2020

Focusing On the Good

Part of finding my joy is focusing on the good over the bad. I was blessed to be able to play in the Nancy Lieberman Charities Celebrity golf tournament surrounded by some great friends! The day was filled with laughter and fun plus this charity is committed to making a difference through sports (I loved sports growing up) and education for girls, boys, young women and young men.

When you focus on making a difference in the lives of others it helps block the negative emotions that stir. Today marked seven months of not being in person with Steve and we still have no word on his interview.

What I am learning is that some things we can control and others we cannot. I can’t control the situation with Steve’s visa though I can show up, be present, give and make a difference in the lives of others. Giving is the fuel that helps push us through the hard moments in life – when we can focus on someone else instead of ourselves.

This was a great way to be reminded to show up, give, have fun and be present!

What a Pleasure-Finding Joy in the Journey-Day 1,042

Finding Joy in the Journey-Day 1,042 – Thursday – 9/10/2020

What a Pleasure

What a pleasure to be on a panel with these outstanding entrepreneurs and business builders at the 2020 Relationship Marketing Grand Summit. They talk about surrounding yourself with successful people. Today I was invited to do that. Such wisdom and advice offered by my fellow members of this Relationship Marketing Panel.

Stories of Your Mind-Day 1,041 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,041 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Wednesday – 9/9/2020

Stories of your mind become stories of your life

“Stories of your mind become stories of your life.” I have heard

Kody Bateman say this so many times and I have created many stories in my mind since becoming part of SendOutCards (SOC) eleven years ago and attending my first SOC event ten and a half years ago.

A top 100 list dream came true to for me – to be invited to present a workshop at one of the major SOC events. I always imagined it would be our Convention and if it were not for Covid the 2020 Relationship Marketing Grand Summit (RMGS) would have been paired with our Convention. Originally we would have been in Dallas this week for both.

Sometimes our stories don’t come out exactly how we expected, though the power of visualizing is amazing. What an honor to be invited to present on the Virtual RMGS stage this year. Definitely a dream that was 10 years in the making. I have been able to speak at small workshops at past conventions and on the stage after receiving awards and on panels though what an honor this year to be trusted to deliver a workshop at the this major event. Thank you

Kody

Jodi

and the SOC Family for trusting me and making one of my dreams come true. It was such a beautiful honor.

Cleaning Out and Organizing-Day 1,039 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,039 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Monday – 9/7/2020

Cleaning Out and Organizing

I have been saying for months (since Covid started in March) that I would tackle the cleaning out and organizing of my storage closet. Though there is always something more fun or more pressing to take my time. I really hate cleaning out closets!

Today I stopped talking about it and started digging in. It’s always good to clean and purge even though sometimes it seems unpleasant or difficult. The project is not done yet as there is still a lot on the floor of my hallway and kitchen table to go through. In so many things in life, at some point, we finally decide it’s worth our time to make it better! As I look into the closet, I am already happy with the progress and the organization!

What project, if you started, would bring joy to your life?

Growing Up In Indiana-Day 1,038 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,038 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Sunday – 9/6/2020

Growing Up In Indiana

Growing up in Indiana, I loved September as it was the sign of Fall approaching, cooler weather, beautiful crisp days, football season and the leaves changing. After 23 years of living in Texas, this is one of the hardest things to get used to as September is still hot. Though I try to make the most of it and enjoy small little comforts that remind me of the Fall and how much I love this month!
