Groupers-Day 1,447 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,447 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Wednesday – 10/20/2021

I love Groupers

I love Groupers! They are one of my favorite to see underwater. We dove the Rhone wreck today. It sank in the 1800’s and has a ton of life on it. A massive resident turtle, lots of little creatures and the boat is covered in coral.

My favorite local resident though was the Goliath Grouper. It’s hard to tell from this selfie with him though he was over five feet long. Yes, I had to a selfie with him. LOL.

I just love watching them swim through the water. They have almost a puppy dog appearance and their sad groupers face. This was definitely a treat for the day!

About “Finding Joy”

And I’m off…. the 16-day adventure begins. The timing of this trip is interesting so I’m naming it “Finding Joy in the Journey.” I’ll be doing one dedicated post each day (at the end of the day or next morning). Since I typically post more than once a day, you’ll find it as a black and white photo. I’ll share the joy of the journey (on the trip or through this season), where I’m finding it and what I’m learning. I hope to inspire myself along the way. And if I can inspire others too, that would be a gift. So let the journey begin…

It was November 2017 and I was ready to head off on a sixteen-day trip.  Nine days before leaving, my mom unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack. It shook me to my core.  I had always been told the 40’s are the best years of your life.  And in a matter of three years, since turning the age of 40, I had gone through a divorce and lost both parents.

I contemplated canceling the trip though I knew my mom would not be happy with that decision. She would want me to continue living my life.  My parents did not raise me to sit back and watch life; instead to fully participate in every moment. So I promised my parents to find joy in the journey everyday on my sixteen-day trip and share my experience with others.

Little did I know what “Finding the Joy in the Journey” would turn into when I acted on the prompting to share my experience on a daily basis.  It helped me see life differently and my wish is that it will inspire others find joy in their journey.

Boat Life-Day 1,446 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,446 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Tuesday – 10/19/2021

Boat Life

I’m loving our week of boat life on the Cuan Law in the BVI’s. Diving, sailing, great food, spending time with friends, making new friendships, evening drinks and beautiful sunsets.

It’s been a long time since Steve, and I’ve done a true vacation (pre Covid) and this one is definitely exceeding our expectations. Looking forward to what the rest of the trip brings!

Water Sports-Day 1,445 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,445 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Monday – 10/18/2021

Water Sports

Besides diving, we have other water sports on the Cuan Law. This evening was about accomplishing the paddle board for me.

I tried several years ago on a trip to Puerto Rico and could not stand up on it. There were a few splashes, this time, though I finally figured out how to balance on the board. I definitely think my yoga practice has helped. What a fun way to enjoy the afternoon on the water!

Scuba Gear-Day 1,444 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,444 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Sunday – 10/17/2021

Scuba Gear

After 675 days, I’m finally back in my scuba gear and heading under the blue ocean! It feels great to breathe out of my regulator and exploring the ocean floor for cool things. The turtles here in the BVI’s are massive! I’m definitely in one of my happy places!

Best Laid Plans-Day 1,443 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,443 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Saturday – 10/16/2021

Best Laid Plans

The best laid plans don’t always work so sometimes you have to make new plans! We had planned on spending the day at the hotel pool to unwind before boarding the boat on Sunday. Unfortunately, the pool is out of order.

Instead, we walked into town and went to the farmer’s market. A great place to meet the locals to find out how to spend our Saturday.

We ended up spending the afternoon at Indigo House in Cane Garden. We had fantastic food and great drinks as we overlooked the sandy beach and beautiful water.

It reminds me how you can be upset that plans went wrong or just figure out something better and enjoy your day.

British Virgin Islands-Day 1,442 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,442 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Friday – 10/15/2021

British Virgin Islands.

12 hours from our front door to being dropped off at our hotel on the island of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. On our quick flight from San Juan to Tortola we had some beautiful views of both the US and British Virgin Islands. I’m super excited we’ve arrived and I’m going to knock two items off my Top 100 list this week!

#29 – Spend a week on a sailboat with my friends and have our own chef & captain

#52 – Scuba Dive in the BVI’s

Let the memory making and the fun begin! (Wait… don’t I always have fun?!?! ) Here’s to the great adventure ahead.

Day 1,441 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Thursday – 10/14/2021

Tonight’s Date Night

Tonight’s date night had a little bit of an English twist for Steve. We went to Baker Street Pub. It was kind of a mix between Tex-Mex meets London. Lol.

The Sweetest Gift-Day 1,440 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,440 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Wednesday – 10/13/2021

The Sweetest Gift

Spent the evening with my friend Darla Fanta. She brought me the sweetest gift. I love the sign and it’s now on my office door. “Be your own kind of beautiful.” Yes!

We are all unique and have our own beauty. We allow our own kind of beautiful by embracing and living ourselves. We embrace it by living our lives being true to ourselves instead of to the expectations of others.

Embrace you! You are beautiful!!

Joy in the Journey Posts-Day 1,439 – Finding Joy in the Journey

Day 1,439 – Finding Joy in the Journey – Tuesday – 10/12/2021

Joy in the Journey Posts

All of the Finding Joy in the Journey posts are now compiled in one place. Today I started reading through them as I begin to write the third and final part of my book. I enjoyed going through the very first ones and the lessons I took from those early days.

One of the lessons I’ve learned since I started these posts is that when I document my days and look back, I can much better remember a specific day or event that otherwise might have gotten lost in all of my thoughts and memories. I love this and so glad I have this practice and my daily journey to remember my days.
